point mugu, california

Standing in the sand looking down the length of the beach, I am overcome with a feeling more instinct than understood. It is an acute awareness of location that i feel, for i know that on this beach i cannot get lost. Tell my friend that i am standing on the edge and they will know where i am, but a little to either side and i may be gone forever. A few steps to the west and i am swimming in an endless Pacific Ocean, a few steps to the east and i enter the grasslands and thickets of the vast American West. Between land and sea, this beach running north and south from here is absolutely known. On this edge charted and refined over centuries herein lies the boundary of our land...and all that is within our grasp.
